Riverview History

Riverview was founded in 1885, though was previously two separate settlements North and South of the Alafia River. Peru being the settlement on the South side, while Riverview was on the North side. Many of the communities and roads in Riverview, such as Boyette and Symmes, are named after the families that first settled in the area. The Peruvian Mining Company got their name from the settlement of Peru. In those days, the phosphorus that glowed on the bottom of the river gave the river its name: Alafia translates to “River of Fire.”

Nowadays Riverview is growing immensely. It is not an incorporated town. It is made up of many people who moved here for its ease of commute into Tampa, as well as the easy trip to some of the greatest beaches on the Gulf.
